COURSE DESCRIPTION

THIS COURSE STRESSES THE FUNDAMENTALS OF PRONUNCIATION,

GRAMMAR, PRACTICAL VOCABULARY, USEFUL PHRASES, AND THE

ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND, SPEAK, READ, AND WRITE SIMPLE

ITALIAN. GROUP DISCUSSIONS ARE INCLUDED COVERING THE

GEOGRAPHY, THE ARTS, AND CULTURE OF ITALY.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

BY THE END OF THIS COURSE YOU WILL:

  • BUILD UPON AND SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS IN WRITING, READING AND CONVERSING IN ITALIAN USING DIFFERENT MODES OF SPEECH
  • GAIN AN APPRECIATION FOR ITALIAN CULTURE
  • ACQUIRE NEW PERSPECTIVE OF CULTURE AND APPLY IT IN OUR CULTURALLY DIVERSE WORLD

 

HOMEWORK POLICY

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE COMPLETE TO RECEIVE FULL CREDIT. POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED FOR EACH LATE ASSIGNMENT AND YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO IF AND ASSIGNMENT IS NOT HANDED IN THE DAY IT IS DUE. IF YOU ARE ABSENT, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE UP MISSED HOMEWORK. PLEASE CHECK PUPILPATH FOR ASSIGNMENTS. ALSO, MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH ME REGARDING ASSIGNMENTS, TESTS AND QUIZZES.

ALL GRADED ASSIGNMENTS ARE TO BE KEPT IN YOUR FOLDER. BY KEEPING ALL THE ASSIGNMENTS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CONTINUOUSLY KEEP TRACK OF YOUR POINT AVERAGE THROUGHOUT THE MARKING PERIOD.

 

PARTICIPATION

PARTICIPATION IS A DAILY GRADE. YOU MUST MAKE THE EFFORT AND NOT WAIT TO BE CALLED ON. WE WILL MAKE MISTAKES ALONG THE WAY, I ASK THAT YOU TRY YOUR BEST. THE COMPLETION OF CLASSWORK IS ALSO PART OF THIS GRADE.

 

CLASSROOM RULES

  1. BEGINNING OF THE PERIOD: COME TO CLASS ON TIME WITH ALL NECESSARY MATERIALS AND HOMEWORK. BE IN YOUR SEAT, READY TO BEGIN WORKING ON THE “INCOMINCIAMO” WHEN THE BELL RINGS.
  2. SPEAKING: ONE PERSON SPEAKS AT A TIME, UNLESS GROUP OR CLASS DISCUSSIONS HAS BEEN INSTRUCTED. RAISE YOUR HAND AND BE POLITE BY NOT INTERRUPTING OTHERS OR HAVING SIDE CONVERSATIONS. NO TALKING DURING TESTS/QUIZZES OR A ZERO WILL BE GIVEN.
  3. FOOD AND DRINKS: NO EATING OR DRINKING IS ALLOWED IN CLASS.  KEEP THE CLASSROOM CLEAN!
  4. ELECTRONICS: TURN OFF ALL CELL PHONES AND ANY OTHER ELECTRONICS DEVICES BEFORE ENTERING THE CLASSROOM.THEY SHOULD NOT BE SEEN ON THE STUDENTS’ DESK. ANY STUDENT USING AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE WILL BE WRITTEN UP.
  5. RESPECT: WHEN THE TEACHER IS TEACHING EVERYONE IS LISTENING. IF A STUDENT IS SPEAKING EVERYONE SHOULD BE LISTENING. SPEAK KINDLY TO OTHERS AND RESPECT PERSONAL SPACE AND BELONGINGS. USE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE AT ALL TIMES.

 

THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO TOLERANCE FOR EVEN THE SMALLEST DEGREE OF DISRESPECT IN CLASS. ALL ACTIONS WILL BE DOCUMENTED AND REPORTED. ANY FOUL LANGUAGE, INSULTS, IMPROPER COMPORTMENT, NEGATIVE ATTITUDE WILL RESULT IN A PHONE CALL.

 

CHEATING/ONLINE TRANSLATORS

CHEATING IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE IN ANY CLASS. YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO AND WILL BE UNABLE TO MAKE THE ASSIGNMENT.
