Congratulations to Adedoyin Akingba, a Living Environment teacher at Gramercy Arts High School, who is the 2018 recipient of the Mary McLeod Bethune Award—awarded by the UFT in recognition of a teacher’s commitment to equality and demonstration of outstanding achievement inside and outside of the classroom. Ms. Akingba, a NYC Teaching Fellow, joined Gramercy Arts in 2016. A Brooklyn native, she has focused her class this year on teaching science through literacy. Ms. Akingba also co-leads a weekly yoga class at Gramercy, and is known throughout the school for her student shout-outs and school-wide positive reinforcement efforts, as reflected in her Black History Month classroom door.
